Midterm camp at Beekool

There is a midterm/Hallowe’en camp taking place next week at Kilcooley. If you are interested in sending your child contact Breege from the after school and breakfast club. Camogie mini sevens

The Kilcooley camogie girls were in Loughgeorge last week to take part in the mini sevens competition. They played a few great games and made it to the semi final. They were beaten by New Inn but played their best and we were very proud of them! Well done girls. The boys also played in the hurling mini sevens recently but were defeated. Hard luck boys.

Birdwatching with Tom Cuffe

Last week we had a bird watcher, Tom Cuffe in our school over a few days to teach the children some facts about birds, birdwatching and a chance to practise drawing and making birds in origami. This was a great way to reinforce and add to what we have learned about birds already and to increase the children’s interest in birds and biodiversity. We have some wonderful origami creations after our visit from Tom.

Bird boxes

We have been very busy this term working on the theme of Biodiversity for our next Green school flag.  As part of this theme, we have been learning a lot about our local birds and their environment. We have done research online, written about the birds, drawn pictures and made our own bird boxes. The children from third and fourth classes constructed their own bird boxes and then painted and decorated them with unique designs. They worked really well with their partners to create some beautiful boxes.

The children from fifth and sixth classes did research on various birds, wrote interesting facts and sketched and colored their birds.

Habitats

The green school committee have been teaching all the children about biodiversity. They made their own habitat boxes to show the different habitats that animals, insects and sea creatures live in.

Bird feeders
